Using the Flex 3000 Portable/Mobile with YP3 Antenna

So I used the Flex Radio for the first time on air, down Llanmadoc beach in Swansea.

Setup a YP3 Beam in a Bag on a Racal pneumatic mast.

YP3 Mobile/Portable Yagi Antenna Flex Radio

Flex receive is fantastic, however the radio at times refused to transmit, not could the ATU match up. Despite the Antenna having a very good VSWR reading on the MFJ Analyiser.
Switched back to the Icom 706 which is on the dash, and made a good few contacts.

Will have to investigate why the Flex is temperamental

  2. I’d say its not bad. It takes a little while to setup. Thus I’ve now marked the antenna for 20 meter work, which is what I bought it for.

Unlike what the adverts of Martin Lynch claim, it doesnt go higher than 20 meters, it covers 6 to 20 meters and does a good job at that.

10 watts in Moscow wasnt bad, with a 5/9 report.

    Many thanks for that Damien.
I really need it for home, as I have a 40ft pump up mast. But it has to fit between two trees on it’s way up.
I also go on holiday with a caravan, so it can be used for that as well.

  4. If you intend to keep it up I wouldnt get it, they way its put together is okay in nice clam weather but I reckon even a mild breeze over time would damage it.

Its built like the connector to a hoover. In that it comes apart easy, but there is movement in it, which no doubt would just get worse if left it.

I suspect that given enough of a wind the element would easily get ripped off their mounts, be it the threads at the end or the plastic mounts themselves on the boom
